SpaceOARTM Hydrogel is an option for men who undergo radiation treatment for prostate cancer. It acts as a spacer providing space between the rectum and the prostate, reducing radiation exposure to the rectum. It is injected into place before the start of radiation treatment. Patients may be awake or asleep under general anesthesia for the procedure. SpaceOARTM Hydrogel remains stable during radiation therapy and is gradually absorbed by the body after radiation therapy has been completed.
Benefits of SpaceOARTM Hydrogel
- Temporarily positions the rectum away from the prostate
- Reduces rectal wall radiation exposure
- Inserted via minimally invasive procedure
“The introduction of SpaceOARTM Hydrogel as a pre-treatment option at United Hospital Center demonstrates our commitment to providing the best possible care to our patients by offering the latest innovation in treatments,” said Grant L. Franklin, Jr., MD, Urology Specialist at UHC.
